Overactive sweat glands will produce more sweat then the average persons. Most of the time this happens in the armpits, but many people experience this in their hands, on the bottom of their feet or in the groin area. This problem can be very annoying.

According to experts this sweat gland issue can cause other problems too. They can be signals of thyroid problems or problems with the nervous system. It is also difficult for people with this situation because the areas that have access sweat can be cracked and scaly and usually the area will smell bad.

Other challenges can happen depending on where your problem sits on your body. For instance, if you have sweaty palms all the time it will be difficult to grip things or to use your hands a lot.

Some medications for other problems can also make your body start sweating more and bring about hypractive sweat glands. A good rule of thumb on this one is to talk to your doctor. When you talk to your doctor about it, the first thing they will do is look at the area that is sweating and in this case it might be several places.

Some doctors will use a paper test, where they use a special paper that they put in the affected area. After it is saturated, they weigh it. They will know by the weight of the paper how much sweat there is in the area.

Another test for hyperhidrosis is a starch iodine test where they put an iodine solution in the area, let it dry, and then put starch on it. The area will turn blue when the sweat is excessive. With these two tests the doctor can make other recommendations.

There are basic treatments for excessive sweating that start with a prescription deodorant and then can go to more serious treatments like Botox or certain surgeries to take out the sweat glands; this only happens in very extreme cases.

The bottom line is that if you think you have overactive sweat glands you should check with your doctor to see whether it is hyperhydrosis or some other ailment.
